Governor signs Moseley bill for teacher retirement plan flexibility

Indiana Governor Mike Pence has signed into law legislation coauthored by State Rep. Chuck Moseley, D-Portage, that gives teachers more flexibility with their retirement plans.

According to Moseley, if a school corporation makes changes to a retirement account for employees, those affected can look for other plans.

“This law gives school employees more options for developing their retirement account,” he said. “It also encourages competition among insurers for more and better retirement plan options.

“This is a good piece of legislation,” he added. “I’m pleased to see it come into law with a bipartisan effort.”

Gov. Pence signed House Bill 1560 into law April 1 but the law will not go into effect until July 1 of this year.

“We appreciate the efforts of Rep. Moseley in granting school employees the freedom to roll over their existing balances to another account when a school benefits plan closes,” Pence said.
