State Representative Ed Soliday, R-Valparaiso, is honored to accept Governor Mike Pence’s recent appointment to the Northwestern Indiana Regional Planning Commission (NIRPC).

Soliday joins the group of elected representatives from Lake, Porter and LaPorte counties whose mission is to address regional issues regarding economic development, transportation and environmental policy.

“I am honored to receive this appointment to the NIRPC, and I look forward to further serving the people of Northwest Indiana in this new facet,” said Soliday. “Infrastructure is vital to economic development initiatives and is crucial to the success and prosperity of our region. I am very excited to participate in an organization that considers these issues and works to resolve them.”

Formerly known as the Lake-Porter County Regional Transportation Planning Commission, the organization was established in 1965 per the Indiana Code. The law was later amended on several occasions to include a name change to the NIRPC which allowed additional counties to join, provided seats on the board for mayors and established that members must be elected officials. Stemming from the amendments, LaPorte County was added to the NIRPC in 1979.

“(Soliday) has proven himself as a true leader and dedicated public servant as a member of the Indiana General Assembly,” said Gov. Pence. “I appreciate his willingness to devote his time and talent to continue to better his community as a member of the Northwestern Indiana Regional Planning Commission, and with his guidance, we look forward to great things to come in the years ahead.”
