State Representative Ed Soliday, R-Valparaiso, is honored to accept Governor
Mike Pence’s recent appointment to the Northwestern Indiana Regional
Planning Commission (NIRPC).
Soliday joins the group of elected representatives from Lake, Porter and
LaPorte counties whose mission is to address regional issues regarding
economic development, transportation and environmental policy.
“I am honored to receive this appointment to the NIRPC, and I look forward
to further serving the people of Northwest Indiana in this new facet,” said
Soliday. “Infrastructure is vital to economic development initiatives and is
crucial to the success and prosperity of our region. I am very excited to
participate in an organization that considers these issues and works to
Formerly known as the Lake-Porter County Regional Transportation Planning
Commission, the organization was established in 1965 per the Indiana Code.
The law was later amended on several occasions to include a name change to
the NIRPC which allowed additional counties to join, provided seats on the
board for mayors and established that members must be elected officials.
Stemming from the amendments, LaPorte County was added to the NIRPC in 1979.
“(Soliday) has proven himself as a true leader and dedicated public servant
as a member of the Indiana General Assembly,” said Gov. Pence. “I appreciate
his willingness to devote his time and talent to continue to better his
community as a member of the Northwestern Indiana Regional Planning
Commission, and with his guidance, we look forward to great things to come
in the years ahead.”
