MARION, Ind. (AP) — Authorities say two Indiana men have died from injuries suffered in fireworks accidents over the holiday weekend.

Grant County Coroner Chris Butche tells WXIN that 41-year-old James Drake died Saturday night in Marion when he was struck in the face by a fireworks shell while checking to see why it hadn't detonated.

Butche says Drake suffered extensive facial trauma and was pronounced dead at Marion General Hospital.

The Elkhart County Sheriff's Department says 44-year-old Jose Magallanes was found dead late Sunday morning in northern Indiana when officers responded to a report from neighbors who said they heard a loud boom.

Coroner's office spokesman James Elliott says Magallanes had explosion injuries from a fireworks incident. The coroner ruled Magallanes' death an accident caused by blunt force trauma to the head.
