Duneland got a good
soaking on Monday.
According to Bill
Williams, chief operator at the Chesterton wastewater treatment plant, a
total of 2.6 inches of rain fell between Monday morning and the early hours
At some point
during the heavy rain on Monday night, the plantís 1.2-million storage basin
began automatically accepting runoff-diluted wastewater--to give the plant
time to catch up to the flow--until some 276,000 gallons filled the tank to
a depth of 4.6 feet, Williams said.
There was no
combined sewer overflow into the Little Calumet River and the storage basin
worked as designed.
