Izaak Walton League and Dunes Action eye next move against privatization at Indiana Dunes State Park

Dunes Action supporters will meet Tuesday, April 26, at 6:30 p.m., at Hageman Library, 100 Francis St., Porter.

“The effort to stop the privatization and commercialization of the Indiana Dunes State Park is not over,” said Dunes Action co-founder Jim Sweeney, “Our work continues to stop the project.”

Attendees will get an update on the Land and Water Conservation Fund of 1965. The LWCF is a federal grant-making program for outdoor recreation and the park is bound to its rules.

The Porter County Chapter of the Izaak Walton League and Dunes Action have already made a case for stopping the project on the grounds that it violates federal guidelines in the LWCF.

More activities for Dunes Action will be discussed, as will fundraising and volunteers needed for committee work. Informational flyers, yard sign stands to replace those broken in bad weather, and No Banquet Center on the State Park Beach buttons will be available.

Dunes Action! is a grassroots, all-volunteer, non-partisan coalition that is opposed to the plan by the Indiana Department of Natural Resources to allow a private development company to build and operate a conference/banquet center on the lakefront at the Indiana Dunes State Park.
