Welcome to May in the Dunes!

May is here--at last--and there are so many reasons to visit Indiana Dunes State Park right now. Renew your spirit this month along the shores of beautiful Lake Michigan. The woodland wildflowers are exploding right now, birds are in full chorus, and for the quiet hiker, the babies of the Dunes are being spotted around every trail bend.

Here's a glimpse of some of the upcoming events:

* Welcome Back Weekend, May 3-4. The Nature Center staff has a wide array of unique hikes, programs, and other fun activities. Not only that, but admission to the state park is free on Sunday, May 4.

* On Saturday, May 10, the park will celebrate International Migratory Bird Day. Join a special bird hike at 9:30 a.m. and an afternoon with the birds from 1:30-4 p.m. which will include live bird banding, bird activities, and crafts.

* Memorial Day Weekend is a great time to visit the park. While it may be known for the opening swimming weekend, there are other great activities going on. Take a Star Trek from the new Bird Observation Tower at 8:30 p.m. Friday, May 23, or join in the first 3 Dune Challenge hike (free prizes!) at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 24.

* Registration has already started for Summer Camp. Sign up now for one of three exciting overnight camp experiences. See the Nature Center for registration forms and more information.
