The ad hoc Dunes
Action! coalition has created a website in their campaign to stop the
Indiana DNR and Pavilion Partners LLC from building a new conference/banquet
center on the beach at the Indiana Dunes State Park.
Local and statewide
organizations, businesses, and many residents have been vocal in their
opposition to the new building.
“The website will
help us get all the information out to the public that they need to make the
right decision.
“That is to stop
the new building,” said Dunes Action! co-chair Desiree Robertson.
Supporters of Dunes
Action! have many different reasons for opposing the project. Some call it a
trade of public land for private commercial development. Others are opposed
because of the lack of transparency in the procees.
“The DNR and the
Pavilion Partners have been negotiating this deal for three years without a
single notice to the public that the ‘pavilion re-use’ project included a
new building as big as the original,” said Jim Sweeney, president of the
Porter County Izaak Walton League Chapter.
“We will put a lot
of links on that website and all the documentation we can find,” said
Robertson, “it will also have a PayPal link for fundraising for supplies and
professional advice.”
Donations can also
be sent by mail to the PCC-IWLA (include IDSP on memo line) to 791 N Calumet
Ave., Valparaiso, IN. Donations to the Porter County Chapter are tax
deductible.
