U.S.
Steel is reporting a “discoloration of water” observed on Thursday in the
Burns Waterway at its Midwest Plant.
The
discoloration was detected at “Outfall 004” and “initial determinations
indicate the presence of iron in the water that resulted from maintenance,”
the company said. “The discoloration has since stopped.”
“No substances containing chrome were detected,” USS added.
“We
immediately contacted the National Response Center and Indiana Department of
Environmental Management,” the company noted.
