Indiana residents
are receiving letters by certified mail from the Indiana Alcohol and Tobacco
Commission (ATC).
Those getting the
letters remonstrated at the September 10 hearing against an alcohol permit
requested by Pavilion Partners for use at the beach pavilion in Dunes State
Park.
By responding to
this letter, those against the permit may be able to be an “intervening
remonstrator,” the citizens group Dunes Action said in a press release
Thursday.
This would give
them special standing to appeal this matter if it continues to go further in
the ATC process.
Norm Hellmers, a
spokesperson for Dunes Action, said that a form that needs to be returned
and instructions on how to complete it are available at several local
businesses in Chesterton: Red Cup CafŽ, Duneland Resale, and L.O.A.F.
“We thank these
businesses for being civic-minded and we thank everyone who wants to help
maintain our family-friendly State Park and preserve our treasured
beachfront pavilion,” Hellmers said.
Citizens who
receive a letter from the ATC have 15 days to respond after receiving it.
Hellmers added: “Since Pavilion Partners has chosen to appeal the ATC’s 4-0
decision against their being granted an alcohol permit, these letters are
now critical.”
Dunes Action is a
volunteer, non-partisan citizen coalition that is opposed to the plan by the
IDNR to allow a private development company to build and operate a
conference/banquet center on the lakefront at the Indiana Dunes State Park.
