U.S. Rep. Pete Visclosky, D-1st, released the following statement on Wednesday after filing for re-election to his seat in the House.

“Today, I filed to seek re-election to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2016.

“It is a great privilege to fight every day on behalf the 718,064 residents of the First Congressional District of Indiana.

“I am seeking re-election in order to continue to do my utmost every day to create a better Northwest Indiana for everyone currently living and working in our region and for the next generation of residents.

“We have made great progress, and I believe we are on the cusp of a new era of development and prosperity in Northwest Indiana.

“We must continue to build upon this momentum.

“We must continue to defend American steelworkers and usher in new manufacturing and technology industries into our regional economy. We must continue to invest in our economic and transportation infrastructure. We must continue to improve access to our lakeshore. We must continue to fight to keep our nation safe.

“And we haven’t a moment to lose.”

Visclosky was first elected in 1984 and is currently in his 16th term.
