At deadline today, the filings for the upcoming Republican caucus saw one candidate each for the vacancies on the Burns Harbor Town Council, Liberty Twp. Advisory Board and the Porter Twp. Advisory Board

The Porter County Voters Registration Office told the Chesterton Tribune this morning that Kevin Tracy has filed for Andy Bozakís seat on the Burns Harbor Town Council and Terry E. Dunn has filed for Jeff Larsonís seat on the Liberty Twp. Advisory Board.

The vacancies were created as Bozak and Larson will be joining the Porter County Council.

One candidate for the Porter Twp. board has filed, William Casbon.

The County Republican Party will hold a caucus at 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 23 at the Porter County Demonstration Building, 155 Indiana Ave., Valparaiso, Room 102A.

The deadline for filing is at 4:30 p.m. today, the Voters Registration Office said.

County GOP Chairman Michael Simpson said proxy votes will not be accepted at the caucus. Only precinct committeemen in office 30 days prior to the election are eligible to vote.

The County Chair (or the Chairs designee) will chair the caucus. The law requires a secret ballot and the winner needs a majority vote. The candidate(s) will be given up to three minutes to speak in alphabetical order. The candidates(s) may, if they so choose, have an introduction by a party member, no more than two minutes, prior to their speech.
