Council woman Sylvia Graham, D-At-large, Monday announced her intent to run for a fourth term on the Porter County Council.

The text of Graham’s release in full:

“My name is Sylvia Graham, and I am announcing that I am seeking a fourth term on the Porter County Council. I have worked closely with all members of the Council, the Commissioners, department heads, and the public in solving issues. I served on the county committee that adopted medical care at the jail. I voted to invest $50 million for improvements to County buildings and infrastructure renovation. The projects included the Porter County Court House, the Porter County Expo Center, the Administration Plaza, the Portage North County government complex, as well as acquisition and renovation of the 157 Franklin Street building. This also included county bridges as well as the infrastructure in South Haven. This was all accomplished without raising county taxes, made possible due to the creation of the Porter County Government Foundation, of which I am a founding member. I remain against any new taxes and will continue to promote public safety. I will continue to protect our ecosystem, and I support drug prevention and rehabilitation programs.

“I have established a strong interaction with Porter County residents by answering calls and emails promptly. Over the years, I have served on multiple government boards and presently, I serve on the Recycling & Waste Reduction District, Porter County Aging and Community Services, and the EMA boards. I am liaison to 17 county departments.

“I am a long time Porter County resident, married to Jack Graham. I am a retired FNP, a retired professional bass fisherman, and a previous Porter County 4-H leader. More work lies ahead, and I want to remain a voice for the people. I am asking the Porter County voters for their continued support and their vote in the upcoming primary and general election this year.”
