Stinson and Lopez running for Porter Council; filing deadline is Friday at noon

Two Democrats filed for Porter Town Council late last week, incumbent Greg Stinson for the Town’s 2nd Ward and newcomer William Lopez for 3rd Ward.

Currently holding the 3rd Ward seat is Republican Rob Pomeroy who as of this morning has not filed.

Porter 4th and 5th wards remain vacant as the candidate filing deadline approaches.

How to file for a municipal election

Candidates wishing to run in the May 5 Republican and Democratic municipal primary elections have until noon this Friday, Feb. 6, to file their nominations with the Porter County Voters Registration Office, 155 Indiana Ave. in Valparaiso, Room 105.

The office is closed today, however, due to hazardous weather conditions.

To file, candidates must complete and submit a CAN 42 Declaration form and a CAN 12 Statement of Economic Interests form. Both can be found in the Voters Registration office or can be printed from the Secretary of State’s website at

For 5th District, Emerson DeLaney (inc.). In Porter: For Clerk-Treasurer, Carol Pomeroy (inc.) and Zathoe Sexton.

Democrat: In Chesterton: For 3rd District, Dane Lafata. In Porter: For 1st District, Erik Wagner. For 2nd District, Greg Stinson (inc.) For 3rd District, William Lopez. In Burns Harbor: For Clerk-Treasurer, Jane Jordan (inc.).

As of this morning, there have been no filings at all in either the Dune Acres or the Beverly Shores municipal elections.
