Republican Cyndi Dykes will face Democrat Randy Wilkening in the race for Porter County Coroner on Nov. 6.

Dykes garnered 4,244 votes or 55 percent to beat fellow Republican Thomas Ampeliotis, who took 3,457 votes or 45 percent.

Wilkening won 4,210 votes or 58 percent to beat fellow Democrat Dale Bagnall, who took 3,089 votes or 42 percent.

Dykes works full-time at Porter Regional Hospital as a certified histology technician in the Pathology Department. She is not currently a state-certified death investigator but has pledged to become one before taking her oath of office. Ampeliotis presently serves as a Deputy Coroner now and is a state-certified death inspector.

Wilkening, for his part, holds the rank of captain with the Portage Fire Department, where he serves as a firefighter/paramedic. He has not yet taken the state-certified death investigator’s course. Bagnall has previously served three years as a Deputy Coroner.
