Tonight’s Republican caucus will see a race between Terry E. Dunn and Matt Keiser for the vacant seat on the Liberty Twp. Advisory Board.

Keiser filed on Friday afternoon after the Chesterton Tribune’s deadline, according to the Porter County Voters Registration Office. Candidates had until 4:30 p.m. on Friday to file.

The Voters Office also reported that no one else filed Friday for the Burns Harbor Town Council seat, leaving an unopposed race for candidate Kevin Tracy to fill the seat previously held by Andy Bozak.

Bozak was elected by caucus to fill Jim Biggs’ seat on the Porter County Council earlier this month. Jeff Larson resigned his seat on the Liberty Twp. board after he was elected as a County Council at-large member in November.

The caucus will also elect a new member to the Porter Twp. Advisory Board. A vacancy was created there after the death of board member Dave Williams. William Casbon is the single candidate for that seat.

The caucus will take place tonight at 7 p.m. in Room 102A of the Porter County Administration Building, 155 Indiana Ave. in Valparaiso. Only precinct committee person in office for 30 days prior to the election are eligible to vote in the caucus. Voting will be done by secret ballot and the winner needs a majority vote.

Candidates will be giving up to three minutes to speak prior to the vote and may choose to have a party member make an introduction.
