Local candidates file for town office

Candidate filing for local offices in the 2019 general election is underway: the following Duneland candidates have filed.

In Burns Harbor, Jane Jordan (D) has filed to retain her post as Clerk-Treasurer. Incumbent Town Council member at-large Ray Poparad (D) has also filed.

In Chesterton, Stephanie Kuziela (R) has filed to retain the position of Clerk-Treasurer.

No one has filed yet in Beverly Shores, Dune Acres, Ogden Dunes, or Town of Pines. Filing information for Porter was not yet available as of deadline today.

Outside Duneland, the following candidates have filed.

In Portage, the Mayor’s race is already contested, with Democrats Leo Hatch Jr. and Christopher Stidham.

Nina Rivas (D) has filed for Clerk-Treasurer. Debbie Podgorski (D) has filed for City Council at-large. Frank O’Reilly (D) has filed for the City Council District 2 seat. Antonio Gutierrez (R) has filed for the District 3 City Council seat, and Brian Gulley (D) has filed for the District 4 City Council seat.

In Valparaiso, Holly Taylor (R) has filed for Clerk-Treasurer, Robert Cotton (D) has filed for the District 2 City Council seat, and Walter Dougherty (R) has filed for the District 3 City Council seat.
