A Republican Party
caucus has elected Blake Jefferson to fill the impending vacancy of the 3rd
District seat on the Kouts Town Council created by the recent resignation of
Jim Murphy, effective Thursday, June 30.
The caucus,
organized by Porter County Republican Party Chair Michael Simpson, was held
on Tuesday.
Three candidates in
addition to Blake filed for the seat: Dion Arndt, Spencer Finney, and Don
Sutter. Each gave a brief presentation--“They al desired to continue the
fiscally responsible, efficient, and effective manner that the town has
operated in,” the county GOP said in a statement released on Wednesday--and
then the caucus voted.
The county GOP did
not release the vote count.
“Simpson praised
each of the candidates and thanked them all for their participation and
commitment to the town and the Republican Party,” the statement said. “He
went on to congratulate Blake Jefferson, thanking him for committing himself
to the position and making the time necessary to serve the citizens of Kouts.”
Jefferson was sworn
in on the spot by Sundae Schoon, Republican Director of the Porter County
Voter Registration Office.
