Valparaiso attorney Mike Fish handily won the Republican nomination for the bench of Porter Superior Court 1 in Tuesday’s primary election.

Fish took 5,929 votes or 48 percent of the total in the three-way race. His fellow attorneys, Katrina Spence-Smock and Frank A. Jury, took 33 percent (4,138 votes) and 19 percent (2,372) respectively.

Fish has practiced law in Porter County for 21 years, focusing on family matters, bankruptcy, and general litigation.

In November, Fish will face Democrat Matt Soliday, who ran unopposed on Tuesday for his party’s nomination to Superior Court 1 bench and garnered 17,890 votes.
