Election Day Tuesday: Where to vote in primaries

Back To Front Page

Election Day is Tuesday, May 5, for the municipal primary races in Porter County.

Designated polling locations will open at 6 a.m. for voting and will close at 6 p.m.

Voters are required to bring a government issued photo ID to their respective polling locations to confirm their voter registration. This year, Porter County will be using electronic poll books which will scan the bar code on the back of an ID card, signing voters in.

Voters can check online at www.indianavoters.com to see which voting precinct they live in and verify their voter registration. There is also an Indiana Voters app available for download on mobile devices.

Those with questions can also contact the Porter County Voters Registration Office at (219)-465-3487, (219)-465-3488, (219)-465-3496 and (219)-465-3594.

In Duneland, municipal elections will take place for those living in the towns of Chesterton and Porter. Portions of the Town of Chesterton are included in select areas of Liberty and Jackson townships.

There will be NO primary elections for the Towns of Burns Harbor, Dune Acres or Pines as towns with populations of fewer than 3,500 will not go to the polls on May 5 to nominate a slate of candidates for municipal office.

The Democrat and Republican parties of small towns will each hold a “town convention” no later than Aug. 21 in which voters can cast ballots for Clerk-Treasurer and seats on the town council. Candidates in those towns have until Monday, Aug. 3 at noon to file for the conventions.

Political party chairpersons may begin filling vacancies on ballots Wednesday, May 6 and have until Friday, July 6 at noon to do so for towns with more than 3,500 residents. The deadline is Friday, Aug. 28 at noon for party chairs to fill ballot vacancies for towns with fewer than 3,500 residents.

The precinct polling places that will be open on Tuesday are:
