The 2016 General
Election is just a few weeks away, but voters can begin casting ballots at
early voting locations opening up next week.
The Porter County
Election Board will offer early voting, or absentee voting, beginning on
Wednesday, Oct. 12. at three locations -- the Porter County Administrative
Building, Suite 102A (155 Indiana Ave., Valparaiso), the North County
Government Complex rotunda (3560 Willowcreek Rd., Portage), and the
Chesterton Town Hall Meeting Room (790 Broadway, Chesterton).

the last day for voters to register before the general election is Tuesday,
Oct. 11. Registration can be done at the Porter County Voters Registration
Office, 155 Indiana Ave. in Valparaiso (Suite 105), or do so online at
www.indianavoters.com. Voters registration forms can also be completed
at any Bureau of Motor Vehicle location.
New this year, the
County Election Board has agreed to offer evening hours on Tuesdays and
Thursdays at all locations from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. This is so registered
voters who work during the day can have more time to vote to fit their

through Friday, voters can early vote at the three mentioned locations from
8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Early voting will
be offered on the two consecutive Saturdays before the election -- Saturday,
Oct. 29 and Saturday, Nov. 5.
The last day to
vote early or vote absentee is Monday, Nov. 7 at 12 p.m.
Election Day is
Tuesday, Nov. 8. Polls will be open then from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Voting by Mail
For voters wishing
to vote absentee by mail, an application must be filled out which can be
requested from County Voters Registration office. Once the application is
processed, a ballot will be mailed to the home or mailing address.

Registration office, 155 Indiana Ave., Suite 105, Valparaiso, IN, 46383, by
Monday, Oct. 31.
A voter who is
confined or a voter caring for a confined person can request a travel board
by calling the Voters Registration Office at (219)-465-3486.
