Democrats Kevin Breitzke reelected Surveyor, Michelle Clancy Treasurer

Donald Trump’s solid victory in Porter County--where he took 50 percent of the vote to Hillary Clinton’s 43 percent--did not translate into shirttail wins for Republicans in the two countywide department-head races.

Democrat incumbent Kevin Breitzke won his sixth term as Surveyor, defeating Republican challenger Bill Rensberger, with 52 percent of the vote to Rensberger’s 48 percent: 37,395 to 34,980.

Democrat incumbent Michelle Clancy, meanwhile, won her first full term as Treasurer in a somewhat closer race against Republican challenger--and current Coroner--Chuck Harris. Clancy took 51 percent of the vote to Harris’ 49 percent: 37,614 to 36,344. Clancy was first elected Treasurer by a Democrat caucus following previous incumbent Mike Bucko’s resignation.
