Challenger Matt Keiser ousts Beth Underwood in Liberty Trustee race

Matt Keiser easily defeated incumbent Beth Underwood on Tuesday for the Republican nomination for Liberty Township Trustee.

Keiser took 273 votes or 56 percent to Underwood’s 214 votes or 44 percent.

Underwood has served two terms as Liberty Township Trustee. Keiser, for his part, waged a vigorous campaign calling for the modernization of the office, including the incorporation of state-approved accounting software and the creation of an on-line presence. Keiser also pledged to collaborate with the Liberty Township Fire Department on either the expansion of the current fire station on C.R. 900N or the construction of a new one.

Keiser works as office director for a civil engineering firm and has served on numerous local boards and commissions.

Liberty Township Board

In the vote-for-three race for Liberty Township Board, only three Republicans ran and no Democrats. All of them are incumbents: Jacquelyn Sterling took 316 votes; Tim Cole, 304; and Terry E. Dunn, 277.

Jackson Township

Trustee and Board

Incumbent Janice M. Meyers ran unopposed for the Democrat nomination for Jackson Township Trustee. No Republican has filed.

In the vote-for-three race for Jackson Township Board, two Republicans filed and one Democrat. All are incumbents. Republicans Mark J. Jaeger and Judith L Guernsey took 216 votes and 198 votes respectively; Democrat C. Diane Bates, 209 votes.

Westchester Township

Trustee and Board

Incumbent Suzanne Philbrick ran unopposed for the Democrat nomination for Westchester Township Trustee. No Republican has filed.

In the vote-for-three race for Westchester Township Board, only one Republican and one Democrat have filed. Both are incumbents: Republican Barbara J. Stroud and Democrat Robin E. Chubb.
