Candidate filing for the primary election ended Friday--and two more county-wide races became competitive at the last minute.

Republicans will have choices in both Commissioner races in the primary. For South District, Fred Martin and new challenger Harvey Nix will compete May 5 to see who will face off with Incumbent South District Commissioner Laura Blaney in the general election Nov. 3.

Republicans Jeff Larson (currently a County Council member) and Jim Biggs (incumbent) are also vying for North District Commissioner in the primary. No Democrats have filed for that seat.

Democrats will also have a choice--since the addition of Susie Talevski Friday, four candidates have now filed for three at-large seats on the County Council.

Both Democrats and Republicans will have a choice in the primary for District 4 State Representative. Republican Sara Blohm and Democrats Ben Blohm and Deb Porter are all hoping for a chance to oust incumbent Ed Soliday (R-Valparaiso).

Republicans will also have a choice between Katrina Spence Smock, Frank A. Jury, and Mike Fish for Judge of the Porter Superior Court No.1 in the primary.

More challengers could still appear after the primary, as Libertarians are nominated by party conventions later in the year, and Independent or Minor Party candidates have until June 30 to gather petition signatures and file for candidacy.
