Porter County
attorney Clay M. Patton has announced his candidacy for Judge of Porter
Superior Court 2 in 2018.
“The son of a
steelworker and a small business owner, attorney Patton attended Porter
County public schools from kindergarten through his high school graduation,”
according to a statement released this week. “He then earned a Bachelor of
Arts degree in criminal justice at Indiana University in Bloomington.” While
attending the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law, Patton
clerked in the Criminal Appeals Division of the Indiana Attorney General’s
Office.
Since returning
home to Porter County, Patton has grown his law practice, while gaining the
respect of Porter County’s elected and appointed officials from each
political party. The following have retained Patton’s legal services:
Portage Township, Porter County Drainage Board, Porter County Election
Board, Porter County Public Library System, Porter County Recycling & Waste
Reduction District, Porter County Stormwater Advisory Board, Town of Beverly
Shores, Town of Burns Harbor, Town of Pines, and Union Township.
“Patton is also an
experienced courtroom litigator, having successfully tried both civil and
criminal jury trials in Porter County,” the statement said, while recently
retired Judge William Alexa asked Patton to serve as Treasurer of his 2006
and 2012 judicial campaigns. In addition, Alexa and many of Porter County’s
other judges have requested Patton to serve as a Judge Pro Tempore in their
absence.
Patton is involved
with the Porter County Bar Association (past resident), Valparaiso Noon
Kiwanis, Valparaiso Chamber of Commerce-Leadership Academy, Family and Youth
Services Bureau, and the Valparaiso Schools Foundation.
