WDSO begins 39th year broadcasting to Duneland

Chesterton High School’s radio station, WDSO-FM 88.3, will resume regular programming on Wednesday, August 26, at 6:00 a.m., after broadcasting continuous music in June and August during the summer break for Duneland Schools.

This marks the 39th year of broadcasting for the station. WDSO serves the Duneland School Corporation, the entire Duneland community, and also streams on the internet at www.duneland.k12.in.us/wdso.

The station will be broadcasting 24 hours a day, seven days a week as it did during the last school year. Regular programming will air Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to around 4 p.m. daily with music throughout the overnight hours and on Saturdays and Sundays.

WDSO plays a variety of music, mixing all types during each music hour. After school music shows highlight a particular type of music, the choice of the on-air DJ. Request lines are open at that time and listeners can call in and have favorite songs played on-the-air. No requests are taken between 6:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.

WDSO will continue its daily programming with shows like the CHS News & Events; Community Bulletin Board, Daily Almanac taken from “Echoes of the Past” from the Chesterton Tribune, Profile America from the U.S. Census Bureau, Bird Note, Insight Daily Radio, On The Money Minute and Sound Beat.

Weekly programs include the CHS Weekly Report, Porter County Perspective and the Indiana State Police Road Show.

Special community programs include Historically Speaking, hosted by Serena Sutliff, curator at the Westchester Township History Museum; Pet Talk, hosted by Dr. Jenny Herbert, veterinarian and owner of Arbor View Animal Hospital along with staff; Artful Conversations with host Chris Acton, publicist for the Chesterton Art Center, and Naturally Speaking, hosted by Jean-Pierre Anderson, an interpreter from the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore.

WDSO sportscasters will announce home games during the regular season for CHS varsity football in the fall, boys’ and girls’ basketball during the winter months and softball and baseball in the spring. Some away games and post-season games will be broadcast as well.

Student management this year includes: Program Director and News Director Ð Brooke Sauter (grade 12); Music Director-Sean Messina (12); Sports Co-Directors ÐBrandon Root (12) and Simon Williger (10); PSA Director- Colin Lenburg (12); Promotions Director-Brian Bolin (12) and Training Director- Miles Jablonski (10).

Matt Waters is the station manager/faculty advisor and Michele Stipanovich is the operations manager.
