Chesterton resident Dan Vondrasek, Sr., who has experience as a head diving coach at CHS for ten years, is announcing his candidacy for the Duneland School Board’s at-large seat in this year’s election.

Vondrasek in a press release said in addition to his years as coach at Chesterton High School he also coached one year at Portage High School and three years for New Prairie High School. He also served as a substitute teacher for the middle school and high school at New Prairie.

Vondrasek is also the founder of the Duneland Diving Team and was awarded Diving coach of the year.

He was also actively involved in three businesses. The first was in Japan as a modeling agent. The other two were maintenance contractor jobs with the United States Marine Corp. and the Porter County Public Library System.

Vondrasek said he was also a supporter of the referendum, with “a hawkish eye.”

If elected, Vondrasek said he will not support any cuts to the educators. “I will compete to gain student losses back to Duneland,” he said.

Registered voters in the Duneland School District will vote for the at-large seat on Election Day, Nov. 6.
