Trojan Guard earns second at Concord Minuteman Invitational

The Chesterton High School Trojan Guard Marching Band placed second at the Concord High School Minuteman Invitational this past Saturday. The Trojan Guard was one of 18 Northern Indiana bands participating in the Concord High School Minuteman Invitational in Elkhart, Indiana.

The Open Class A competition was won by the 192 member Crimson Marching Band of Goshen, Indiana with a score of 67.10, followed by the CHS Trojan Guard with a final score of 60.95. Third place honors went to the members of the LaPorte band who scored a 60.35. Scoring a 59.80, fourth place went to the “Pride of Portage” band. The Elkhart Central High School “Blazer Brigade” rounded out the top five groups in the Class “A” competition scoring a 58.00.

This early season invitational is a precursor to the upcoming series of Indiana State School Music Association (ISSMA) competitions that will begin in early October. The results of the ISSMA competitions will then decide which groups will qualify to perform in Lucas Oil Stadium on Saturday, November 4 as part of the ISSMA Open State Marching Band Championship event.

The Trojan Guard’s 2017 competitive show revolves around the exhilarating theme of mountain climbing, and is entitled, “Bridges to the Gods”. The production consists of a 4 movement musical score including: Mvmt. I “The First Climb”, Mvmt. II “Rest at High Camp”, Mvmt. III “Cornice, Cravasse, and Avalanche”, and Mvmt. IV “To the Summit!”.

The Trojan Guard is under the direction of Michael Scheiber with assistance by Vincent Arizzi. Additional staff includes Lisa Scheiber-color guard director, Kylene Mitchell-color guard assistant, Matt Christensen-marching tech and Jeff Wroblewski-drill design.

The next competition for the Trojan Guard will be Saturday, September 17, at the ‘Kingsmen Invitational” hosted by Penn High School of Mishawaka, Indiana.

The next local performance by the band will be at the CHS football pre-game festivities on Friday, September 29 against Lake Central High School.
