The Duneland School
Board approved the appointment of two new teachers to fill elementary
physical education and art positions that were left vacant at the end of the
2017 school year.
Elementary Learning and Performance Christy Jarka got the Boardís approval
to fill the vacant positions in April after a committee of stakeholders
concluded that students at Jackson Elementary and Brummitt Elementary
werenít getting enough instruction time in Art and PE without full-time
teachers for each of those subjects at each school.
Heather Connors was
hired as an Art teacher at Brummitt. Connors was formerly employed at
Griffith Public Schools and has been an instructional aide at Jackson
Elementary. Connors said she was very excited for the opportunity to teach
in Duneland and moved here with her four children for the quality education.
William Butz was
hired as a PE Teacher at Brummitt. Butz is a 2011 CHS graduate with a
bachelorís from Valparaiso University and experience coaching at Duneland.
ďIím really excited to start my next chapter at Duneland. I just want to
give back to the community thatís given so much to myself and my family,Ē
was hired to teach Art at CMS. Morrisroe was not able to attend Mondayís
meeting, but is a graduate of Morgan Township High School and Grace College
and comes highly recommended from Portage High School, where she was
recently a long-term sub.

business, Duneland Schools Superintendent Chip Pettit took a moment to thank
fifth grade teacher Kathleen Telligman for her work at Duneland. Telligman
is retiring from Westchester Intermediate after devoting 42 years to
