Incumbent Michael Trout will face Rich Whitlow in the at-large race for Duneland School Board in this year’s genera election.

Before deadline this morning, the Porter County Voters Registration office reported that Whitlow--a former Chesterton Town Council member and a youth soccer coach--filed his candidacy.

Candidates for school board had until noon today to file. Duneland School Board members Ralph Ayres and Ronald Stone remained uncontested in their races this morning in the final hour before the 12 p.m. deadline.

The Chesterton Tribune will report any last-minute candidacies in Monday’s edition.

Ayres holds the board’s Westchester/Pine Township seat, while Stone is the Liberty Township representative.

Voters within the school district will be able to vote in all three races regardless of where they live or which part of the district a given seat represents.

Candidates run as independents in school board races and do not declare a political party.

Election Day this year is Tuesday, Nov. 4.

Voters Registration Democratic Director Kathy Kozuszek said voters in the school district have one week--Aug. 29 at noon--if they wish to question the validity of a candidate’s petition of nomination by contacting the County Election Board.

Candidates also have until noon Monday to withdraw their nominations if they choose, Kozuszek said.
