The Duneland School Board will be presented with a recommendation to purchase
property at its meeting Monday.
The school board will meet at 6 p.m. at the administration center, 601 W.
Morgan Ave., Chesterton.
On Thursday, a school committee that’s been studying Duenland’s space needs
met for the last time and agreed by consensus that Duneland should build a
new elementary school.
Duneland Assistant Superintendent Monte Moffett would not elaborate on how
the land purchase to be presented Monday might be related to the committee’s
recommendation.
The school board last year purchased 26 acres adjacent to the Liberty Schools
but members made it clear that they would continue searching for other sites
for possible new school facilities. The school board has held a number of
executive sessions in the past year on land acquisition.
Other agenda items for Monday’s school board meeting include recognition of
the Chesterton High School boys’ swim team for its state championship, a
presentation by Jackson Elementary School, a CHS parking policy,
consideration of an easement request, handbook changes, textbook adoption for
all grades and a recommendation to repair air units at Liberty Intermediate
School.
