The Duneland School Board appointed Judith Malasto as interim superintendent of the Duneland School Corporation this morning at a short public meeting.

Malasto received her Ed. S. in Educational School Superintendency from Ball State University. She gained valuable central office experiences as the director of curriculum for East Porter County Schools from 2008 to 2014 when she returned to Duneland as an administrator at Chesterton High School. Malasto joined the central office team of Duneland at the beginning of this school year as the new Director of Secondary Learning and Performance. Malasto is currently in the process of completing her doctorate in educational administration and supervision at Ball State.

According to Board President John Marshall, the Board is very confident in Malasto’s abilities to serve as the interim superintendent and feels that her leadership will bring the district closer together. The board has begun the initial search for a permanent superintendent and will keep the staff and community informed of their progress.

Malasto replaces former Superintendent Dr. Ginger Bolinger who retired from her position earlier this month due to health issues. Her retirement was effective immediately.

This morning, the Board approved changes to Bolinger’s contract, which would have lasted through the 2019-2020 school year per the old terms. Marshall told the Chesterton Tribune this morning that the Board negotiated changes to make the best possible financial move for Duneland.

Per the amended contract, Bolinger will be compensated through the end of the current school year--until June 30-- and will be given credit for accrued vacation and sick days.
