Good weather and big crowd for CHS Class of 2019

The 129th Chesterton High School commencement exercises for the Class of 2019, was held Thursday, May 30, starting at 7 p.m., in the CHS outdoor stadium.

The prelude, performed while the audience was taking their seats, was presented by the CHS band, under the direction of Mr. Adam Bess.

The processional followed, with “Pomp and Circumstance” accompanying the graduates as they filed in for the ceremony.

Introductions were made by Braxton Martorano, Class of 2019 Secretary.

The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Samuel Stricker, Class of 2019 Treasurer, followed by the National Anthem, sung by Agia Amezcua-Bone, Ryan Callaway, Emma Healy, and Daniel Schmiegel.

Welcome remarks, made by Jennifer Gillen, Senior Class Whip, were followed by the introduction of faculty speaker Caroline Parks, Vice-President of Public Relations.

The Commencement address was given by CHS teacher Ms. PennyJo Morris.

Presentation of honor students by Mr. Brent Martinson, CHS Principal, was followed by a special song by senior choir members.

The Student Address was given by Azeezjamal Lakhani, who shared fond reminiscences of his years in the Duneland Schools, and the many accolades achieved by the class of 2019. This year’s class motto was ‘’We’re Kind of a B19 Deal’’.

The presentation of the Class of 2019 was made by Mrs. Liz Coutroubis and Mrs. Dana Huwig, both teachers.

The highlight of the evening, the presentation of diplomas, was done by Mrs. Judith Malasto, Interim Superintendent, Mr. Monte Moffett, Asst. Superintendent, and officers and members of the Duneland School Board.

The traditional turning of the tassels was led by CHS Class of 2019 graduate Haydn Malackowski, Vice-President of Student Affairs.

The weather cooperated and the soft spring evening gave the event a special glow for all who participated and those who came to observe and congratulate the graduates.
