Follow guidelines for CHS Graduation parking

Back To Front Page

In an effort to make the graduation ceremony at Chesterton High School a safe and enjoyable experience for all the students and guests, the Duneland School Corporation, in conjunction with the Chesterton Police and Street Department, are asking for the public's cooperation with regard to parking and traffic prior to and following the ceremony.

As in years past, parking will be made available in all of the lots on the Chesterton High School complex. A section of the parking area immediately north of door #34 will be designated for handicap parking only. A handicap placard or license plate will be required to park in this lot. The football practice field located at the northwest corner of CR 1100 N and 11th Street will also be open for parking provided there is no rain in the hours prior to graduation day.

In an effort to keep vehicles from driving over curbs and sidewalks, alternative parking will be made available in the Westchester Intermediate School Parking lot, 1050 S. 5th Street, on the south side of the building. School buses will shuttle guests to the north gate of the football stadium. Following the graduation ceremony, buses will pick up passengers at the north gate of the stadium and return them to Westchester Intermediate. The shuttles will begin at 5 p.m. and run until 7 p.m. and will be available for the return trip as soon as the graduation ceremony ends and will run until 10 p.m.

It is anticipated that 4,000 guests will be in attendance at the graduation, with a limited amount of parking space.

It is hope that providing the alternatives listed above, everyone will feel safer on graduation day.
