Discovery Charter School has been awarded a grant for $69,000 from the Indiana Department of Education for its special education program. The Special Education Improvement Award will be used to purchase technology tools to help increase learning for special education students both within the resource room and the general education classroom.

Some of the items to be purchased include a laptop cart with 15 computers for use by the students in the resource room. Websites that require subscriptions will also be added. The websites offer additional reading, math, and science resources. Star boards will be purchased to allow students an interactive and visual approach to learning.

A portion of the grant has been reserved for the special education staff to attend various conferences in order to improve instruction within the general and special education settings. Professional development will also include training on the star boards so that they can be utilized to their fullest potential.

The grant will also allow the resource room staff to purchase additional manipulatives and reading materials for their students.
