On Saturday, October 18, the Chesterton High School Music Department along
with the CHS Band Boosters will host 30 marching bands from the northern
portion of Indiana as they compete for the right to participate in the
Indiana State School Music Association’s (ISSMA) Semi-State competition held
at four different locations around the greater Indianapolis area on the
following weekend, October 25. The Semi-State competition will determine
which of these regional finalists will become one of the top 10 marching
bands from their respective four classes to compete in the ISSMA State
Championship Competition, which is scheduled to be held at Indianapolis’ new
Lucas Oil Stadium on Saturday, November 1.
This year’s regional event will consist of the “B” and “D” class competition
in Chesterton with the Northern “A” and “C” class competition taking place in
Lafayette, Indiana, hosted by Lafayette Jefferson High School. The “D” class
competition will begin at 10 a.m. and end with an awards ceremony at 1:15
p.m. The class “B” competition will begin at 4:04 p.m. and end after the
awards ceremony at 7:16 p.m. Tickets are $7 for all adults and $5 for
students and children. College students are welcome to take part in the
student discount by presenting their college I.Ds. The CHS Band Boosters
