Back To Front Page

Students at Chesterton High School will walk out during the school day at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 27 in solidarity with millions internationally for the Global Climate Strike, which prompted events worldwide this past Friday, Sept. 20.

The walk-out will be held at the U.S. flagpole at the front of CHS, 2125 S. 11th St.

The walk-out has been organized by the Social Justice League, including executive leaders Anekah Fish, Alan Stirling, Riley McCoy, Drew Malapanes, and Mattea Sklut, as well as members Savannah Lee, Mackenna Lee, Shane Fabbri, Stella Trent, and Zane Trent. Senior Sid Augustyn will also deliver a speech.

The Global Climate Strike is a youth-led strike to ring the alarm for the climate emergency. Students at CHS will stand in solidarity with people from 150 different countries around the world in 4,000 events. This mass resistance involves students that demand that the time has come for multigenerational action to save the future of our earth and make this a turning point in our history.

The members of the Social Justice League encourage the community to join together to draw local, national, and global attention to the climate emergency because the U.S. and global governments have failed to take sufficient action to mitigate this unprecedented crisis.
