CHS students spearhead fundraiser to aid local homeless shelters

Back To Front Page

Chesterton High School students Steven Skelton and Matthew Lane are spearheading a project to raise money for the local homeless shelters, Gabriel’s Horn and New Creation.

The plan was developed after students learned via a news report that the number of homeless people in Indiana has jumped by ten percent.

Those students were in a CHS course entitled Adult Roles and Responsibilities, taught by teacher Elena Sampalis. The students were asked to research and present information about different local charities to the entire class.

After all the information was presented, each student in the class had an opportunity to vote on what cause the group should support. The class voted to donate to a local homeless shelter.

In addition, students also organized to raise funds for the event and are now selling candy grams and ‘guess the number of jelly beans in the jar’ for this cause.

The public is invited to donate to this worthy student cause to help two local shelters during this giving season.

A donation box is available in the CHS Main Office for community contributions.
