The Chesterton Speech Team traveled Saturday, January 12, to compete in the Steve Kirkpatrick Memorial Tournament at Concord High School in Elkhart. Over 300 entries, from more than 20 schools, were in attendance, and Chesterton took third place overall against tough competition from Plymouth and Munster.

Juniors Owen Cowsert and Alan Stirling each netted another championship title in Radio Broadcasting and Dramatic Interpretation, respectively. Sophomore Mattea Sklut was on Cowsert's heels in Radio Broadcasting with a very close 3rd place finish, and junior Jenna Aguilar was rounding out the event with 6th place.

Juniors Indigo Loving and Max Winski faced a heated Duo Interpretation final round against five teams from Munster and emerged victorious as Runners-Up. Loving also placed 6th in Humorous interpretation with teammate junior Nathan Mullin taking 5th place in the same category. Mullin and his teammate junior George Tracy took 3rd place in Original Performance while Winski took 6th place in the same category.

Junior Madi Simms showed herself to be a formidable opponent as she took 3rd place in Discussion.

Finally, junior Anekah Fish double-qualified to finals to take 3rd place in Prose Reading and 4th place in Informative Speaking.

Next week, the team returns to Northeast Indiana to compete in the David Dutton Speech Tournament at Penn High School.
