On Saturday, October 24, the newest members of the Chesterton High School speech team gave a strong performance in the first novice tournament of the 2015-2016 season.

Munster High School was the host site for a novice only tournament, a competition meant to help novices build their skills and confidence to perform. In the student-run competition, varsity CHS speech team members served as judges along with varsity students from other schools.

With approximately 10 participating Indiana schools, the eight-person CHS novice squad competed in humorous interpretation, dramatic interpretation, and declamation speaking.

In the humorous interpretation event Alexandra Raudry placed 7th, Allen Smith placed 5th, Hannah Thompson placed 2nd, and Pricilla Sabourin placed 1st as tournament champion. In dramatic interpretation Christian Warren placed 2nd and Anjali Dzarski placed 1st as tournament champion.

“Our novice team did really well and I think they even had some fun in the process,” said coach Kirsten Reed. “It’s important at these novice tournaments for students to have the chance to learn their craft. Now they have a better understanding of what they learned in class.”
