Chesterton High School sophomore Lauren Lecy will attend her first executive
board meeting as a student officer of the Indiana High School Press
Association (IHSPA) at Carmel High School on Dec. 8.
According to
IHSPA director Diana Hadley, student officers at the meeting will provide
ideas for a keynote speaker for the First Amendment Symposium at the Indiana
Statehouse on March 6, 2013, and they will select topics for five-minute
speeches that each of them will give about an aspect of The First Amendment
or about one of the IHSPA core values (freedom, integrity, courage, truth).
Student officers
provide valuable information about current issues in scholastic journalism,
Hadley added. The officers are on the front lines of topics such as schedule
conflicts, weighted grades, and academic curriculum, among many others.
Lecy, a
second-year member of The Sandscript and its current news editor, was named
a student officer during the IHSPA convention at Franklin College on Oct.
19.
