Although it was a smaller than usual tournament, the results for the Chesterton High School debate team loomed large as they prepare for the postseason. Chesterton won four out of the five event categories at the IUN tournament.

Emily Krygoske and Luke Vetrosky were the only undefeated team in public forum. This was the team’s first tournament regarding the topic whether the United States should prioritize paying down the U.S. debt over economic growth. Rhianna Ritz and Kardiay Kirk (3rd), Sofia Winski and Azeez Lakhani (4th), and Sidney Pittman and Emma Ekblaw (5th) also received awards.

Zachary Mullins went undefeated to win the Lincoln-Douglas division. Like public forum, this event recently switched topics and are now debating whether the United States should continue to sell weapons to authoritarian governments. Bella Aurrichio was the tournament runner-up and Ian Quinn came in fifth place.

Chesterton earned its first victory in World School debate during this season. The CHS team included Elia Livovich, Nathan Osborn, Kylie Brickley, and Zoe Swanson. The team also won Congressional debate where Sid Augustyn earned straight ‘ones’ from the four judges to earn the victory. Finn Babjak came in fifth and Sara Vasquez earned eighth place.

Madison Simms and Gianna Galante came in fourth in policy debate and were the lone CHS team to place.
