CHS academic competition awards presented Monday

Awards for participants in the Chesterton High School Academic Competition events were presented Monday evening.

All-Conference awards went to Rebecca Oddi, Spell Bowl; Niccolo Valcavi, Decathlon; and Bruce Ruhmann, Quiz Bowl.

Positive Attitude award winners were Sarah Fischer, Spell Bowl; Kevin Nault, Decathlon; Holly Brady, Quiz Bowl and Sam Larimer, Super Bowl.

In the Mathematics Awards for 2007-08 academic year school winners in the MATHFAX Competition were Algebra I: Brandon Moore, Jacob Pruitt and David Campbell. Algebra II: Adam Potrzebowski, Jordan Hoover, Daniel Carmody, Alexis Johnson. Geometry: Brian Mabry, Ryan Gorman and Nathan Brock. Advanced Math: Ankur Chawla, Codi Coslet and Marshall Popovich.

Division winning teams in the eight state competition region include Advanced Math, first (third in nation); Geometry, first; Algebra II, first and Algebra 1 team, second.

Individual winners were Geometry: Brian Mabry, first, Ryan Gorman second (tie). Algebra II: Adam Potrzebowski, first; Jordan Hoover, second and Daniel Carmody and Alexis Johnson, third place (tie). In Advanced Math Ankur Chawla placed third.

American Mathematics Competition (AMC) School winners are Adam Potrzebowski, AMC 10 and Steve Taylor, AMC 12.
