Board meets Lisa Filipek, newest WIS science teacher

Westchester Intermediate School Principal Shawn Longacre introduced a new teacher at the Duneland School Board’s meeting Tuesday night.

Longacre introduced Lisa Filipek, the newest science teacher at WIS. “She’s created an environment where kids wants to come to learn. It’s hands-on, minds on, in a very loving and caring environment,” Longacre said.

Filipek is a Chesterton resident whose children are CHS grads. Filipek said she’s excited for the new school year, and “I’m most thankful for such a supportive and wonderful staff at Westchester.”

The Board made the following additional personnel moves:

--Kyle Hicke and Susan Marton were appointed custodians, and Timothy Taylor was appointed custodial shift leader, for DSC.

--Scott Pearl resigned as DSC custodian.

--Dale Dinterman was appointed driver for DSC.

--Faith Michael was appointed media secretary at WIS.

--Tonya Oliver resigned as attendance secretary at CMS.

--Melissa Topor was appointed attendance secretary at CMS.

--At CMS, Jose Carillo was appointed coach, Abigail Elkins was appointed assistant cheer coach, and Alex Wingate was appointed football B team assistant coach.

--Brenda Harrison retired as administrative assistant to the principal at CHS.

--Judy Malasto resigned as director of secondary learning and instruction

--Chelsea Bramfeld resigned as DSC integration specialist.
