Benches to mark Duneland Schools 50th at homecoming party

Back To Front Page

The Duneland School District was formed after voters from Westchester Township, Jackson Township, Liberty Township and parts of Pine Township agreed to the incorporation of the new school district. We celebrate the Duneland School Corporation and prepare to mark the 50th Anniversary on January 1, 2019.

A special 50th Anniversary committee--consisting of students, staff and faculty members, retired school personnel and community members--has been formed to plan activities for the entire school community.

Chesterton High School (CHS) Student Government leaders have organized the purchase of four wooden benches with help from local supporters. The benches are being built by the CHS building trades classes and designed and painted by CHS students with mascots to represent the townships that were incorporated into the Duneland School Corporation in 1969. These benches will be on display at the annual CHS Block Party on September 19 for the community to view. After the block party, the benches will be in the Homecoming parade on Friday, September 21 and then on display at the football stadium.

The Duneland School community is invited to participate in the fourth annual Homecoming Block Party sponsored by CHS Student Government on Wednesday, Sept. 19 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the CHS music/soccer parking lot. Visitors should enter the CHS parking lot entrance on 11th Street. The C.R. 1050 entrance will be closed to traffic.

Admission is $1 per person and all admissions earn one ticket. Additional tickets may be purchased. Events range from $1 to $5 and include a silent auction, a bounce house, face painting, a teacher dunk tank, Henna tattoos, principal pie-in-face opportunity, kidsí games, and more.

Food will be available from Desserts by Juliette, The Remade Kitchen, Kona Ice, and Hot Diggity Dog, as well as concessions from student government.
