Westchester Library bandstand concert and movie series begins Friday at Thomas Park

The Valparaiso Community/University Concert Band, directed by Jeff Doebler, Director of Music Education and Bands at Valparaiso University, will perform at the Thomas Centennial Park Gazebo in Chesterton on Friday, June 7, at 7 p.m. as part of Westchester Public Library’s Bandstand Concert & Family Film Series. The concert will be followed by the 1986 film, Labyrinth, a reprint of the film’s original, around 8 p.m.

Those who attend are invited to dress in character for a chance to win a classic reprint movie poster. Attendees are also welcome to bring lawn chairs, blankets, a picnic dinner and bug spray. In the event of rain, the concert and film will be held in the Baugher Center. This series is funded in part by the Chesterton-Porter Rotary Club. Library events are free and open to the public.

Enjoy the music of approximately 50 members of Valparaiso Community/University Concert Band as they perform a variety of traditional band music. This band was founded in 1993 and is open to all interested musicians.

The film Labyrinth is rated PG and has a running time of 2 hours and 10 minutes.

The WPL Bandstand Concert and Film Series will continue on Friday, June 14, at the Lakeland Park Gazebo in Burns Harbor with the music of Who’s Following Who at 7 p.m. The concert will be followed by the 1984 film, Footloose, rated PG.
