The Bomber Girls are an all female motorcycle organization founded in
Savannah, Georgia, in 2007. These women, the Porter VFW and their associates
here in NW Indiana and surrounding areas, are proudly dedicated to
supporting military personnel and their families. The Bomber Girls do this
through the shipment of various care packages to service members overseas.
To the Bomber Girls, patriotism isnít just July 4th and Veteranís Day.
Patriotism is welcoming home and sending off deployed soldiers, writing to
those soldiers, and sending them pieces of home through care packages. This
cookie drive helps to support just one of the many drives and events the
Bomber Girls conduct throughout the year. Since itís inception by the Bomber
Girls, the theme for this particularly popular cookie drive has been ďSend
The Troops Some Loviní From Our Ovens.Ē
Over the years, the Indiana portion of this cookie drive and that of the
base Savannah drive have grown exponentially. In itís first year, friends,
family and various organizations in and around Northwest Indiana shipped
1,069 dozen cookies. Last yearís Indiana contribution was 1,900 dozen
cookies along with thousands of handmade Valentines from children, dog
treats, toys, leashes and collars (note: leashes and collars are no longer
The connection between the Bomber Girls, LRC and VFW Post #2511 came about
through the VFW Postís Ladyís Auxiliary Chaplain who maintains long-standing
friendships with not only the Bomber Girls, LRC President but, several of
itís members. Through discussion of the Chaplainís long-distance personal
contributions to the cookie drives in the past, and more recent localized
efforts, the Porter VFW opened their post to this benevolent organization
and the efforts of both organizations was combined.
So come on out, with cookies in hand! Our troops are important to us, so
help support them and their families.
