Two more Porter County residents die of COVID19

Two more Porter County residents have succumbed to COVID-19, the Porter County Health Department (PCHD) reported Monday.

One of the victims was a Center Township resident; the other, a Portage Township resident.

One was in the 70-79 age group; the other, 80-89.

Neither resided at a long term care facility.

To date, 146 Porter County residents have lost their lives to COVID-19. Deaths by township: in Duneland, 14 Liberty residents; 10 Westchester; and two Jackson. Outside of Duneland: 61 Center residents; 50 Portage; seven Union; one Boone; and one Washington.

Deaths by age group: five in the 40-49; 12 in the 50-59; 20 in the 60-69; 33 in the 70-79; 43 in the 80-89; and 33 in the 90-and-over.

In the 21 days since Monday, Nov. 23, 59 residents have died. In the seven days since Monday, Dec. 7, 27 have died.

New Cases

Also on Monday, PCHD reported 106 new COVID-19 cases (116 on Sunday), to bring the total to 10,792.

As of Monday, PCHD was putting the 0-19 demographic at 1.5K cases; the 20-29 at 1.9K; the 30-39 at 1.7K; the 40-49 at 1.7K; the 50-59 at 1.7K; and the 60-69 at 1.2K.

The other demographic totals as of Monday: 70-79, 650 cases (644 on Sunday); 80-89, 351 cases (349); and 90-and-over, 140 (140).

Hospitalizations

PCHD also reported 39 hospitalizations on Monday, down from 42 on Sunday.

Of Moday’s 39 hospitalizations, 11 were residents of long term care facilities (LTCFs).

LTCFs

Of the new cases reported on Monday, two were residents of a long term care facility, to bring the total so far to 500, up from 498 on Sunday.

Of those 498 LTCF cases, 11 were hospitalized on Monday, up from 10 on Sunday; 400 have recovered, up from 347 on Sunday; and 84 have died, unchanged from Sunday. As of Monday there were 16 active COVID-19 cases in Porter County LTCFs, down from 67 on Sunday.

Active Cases

PCHD reported 9,516 recoveries on Monday, up from 8,725 on Sunday.

Total active cases in Porter County as of Monday, after subtracting the 9,516 recoveries and 146 deaths: 1,130, down from 1,817 on Sunday.

Other Indicators

-- New cases per 100,000 residents as of Monday: 502 (516 on Sunday; 636 on Dec. 7).

-- Unique-individual positivity rate as of Dec. 6: 23.9 percent (24.7 percent on Dec. 5; 23.7 percent on Nov. 29).

-- All-test positivity rate as of Dec. 6: 13.0 percent (14.1 percent on Dec. 5; 14.7 percent on Nov. 29). Note: both positivity rates lag up to eight days due to Indiana State Department of Health reporting methods.

Duneland Cases by Township

-- Westchester: 1,247 cases (1,237 on Sunday). Active cases: 139 (204 on Sunday).

-- Liberty: 625 cases (614). Active cases: 62 (90).

-- Jackson: 215 cases (215). Active cases: 18 (28).

-- Pine: 58 cases (57). Active cases: 11 (11).

Other Townships

-- Portage: 3,385 cases (3,365 on Sunday). Active cases: 316 (550 on Sunday).

-- Center: 3,146 (3,106). Active cases: 342 (562).

-- Washington: 351 cases (348). Active cases: 36 (52).

-- Union: 599 cases (591). Active cases: 81 (113).

-- Boone: 350 cases (347). Active cases: 46 (73).

-- Pleasant: 189 cases (182). Active cases: 30 (40).

-- Morgan: 268 cases (265). Active cases 31 (38).
