Two COVID-19 deaths in Porter County

The Porter County Health Department was reporting this morning the first two deaths from COVID-19 in the county.

The first death was reported on Saturday, the second on Sunday. Both deaths were in Portage Township.

As of 9:45 a.m. today, 117 cases of COVID-19 have been reported to the Health Department, up from 92 on Friday, a 27-percent increase over the last 72 hours.

Eleven patients are currently hospitalized. A total of 28 recoveries has been reported.

Duneland cases by township:

-- Westchester: 11 cases, one hospitalization, three recoveries (10, one, and three on Friday).

-- Liberty: eight cases, two hospitalizations, three recoveries (six, two, and three on Friday).

-- Jackson: one case, no hospitalizations, no recoveries (none, none, and none on Friday).

-- Pine: no cases.

Portage Township--with 54 cases, five hospitalizations, 10 recoveries, and two deaths (45, five, and 10 on Friday)--remains the hardest hit in Porter County; followed by Center, with 22 cases, two hospitalizations, and five recoveries (16, two, and five on Friday; then Westchester; then Union, with seven cases, no hospitalizations, and five recoveries (seven, none, and five on Friday).

The demographic with the most cases remains the 50-59 age group, with approximately 30; followed by 40-49, 30-39, and 60-69. The Health Department also reported today the first cases in the 80-89 group, the 90 and over group, and the 0-19 group.

Female patients outnumber male patients 62 to 55.
