In conjunction with the Family 4th Fest at Hawthorne Park in Porter on July
4, the Chesterton Lions Club will host a pancake and sausage breakfast.
The breakfast will be from 7 to 11 a.m. The cost is $5 and includes three
pancakes, three sausages, and choice of coffee, orange juice, or milk.
Additional pancakes and sausage are available for $1 each.
The Lions Club pancake griddles will be set up in front of the Hawthorne
Park Community Building, which will be open for indoor dining. Proceeds will
support local Lions Club projects.
The 72nd Annual Turtle Derby will be run at 11 a.m. in the basketball courts
near the playground. The turtles, with a lot of encouragement from their
owners, will be vying for trophies and prizes, and kids meals from The Port
Drive-in. Kids are to register their turtles between 10 and 11 a.m. The
first heat will start at 11 a.m. No snapping turtles are allowed.
All Derby entrants will receive a coupon for free root beer at The Port
Drive-in. The top three winners of the heats will receive a coupon for a
free kids meal at The Port Drive-in. The first, second and third place
winners of the final race will each receive a trophy and prizes.
The Lions Club invites the community to bring the family out to enjoy a
yummy pancake and sausage breakfast before the parade at 9 a.m. and the
turtle derby at 11 a.m.
