Time to make a splash at YMCA pool

On Saturday, June 8, the Duneland Family YMCA outdoor pool will open for the season. As the only nonprofit organization with an outdoor public pool in Duneland, swimming lessons are always part of the summer program line up.

Children as young as 6 months of age and up will have the opportunity to experience, explore, and test the aquatic environment.

Four sessions and three program levels will be offered to the community.

Session dates are: June 17-28, July 8-19, July 22-August 2, and August 5-16.

Program levels include Skipper 1, Skipper 2, and Progressive.

Skipper 1 is aimed toward children 6 months to 2 years and is a parent with child program. The cost is $30 for Members and $60 for the community. Classes will be held Monday - Thursday, 5:00-5:30 p.m.

Skipper 2 is designed for children ages 3 to 6 years and is an independent program that introduces the fundamentals of swimming and water safety. Lessons will be held Monday - Thursday 5:30-6:15 p.m.

The Progressive option is for children 7 years and up to help build skills in personal safety, stroke development, rescue skills, and water games.

The cost for Skipper 2 and Progressive is $50 for Members and $100 for the community and classes will be held 5:30-6:15 p.m.

Registration for swimming lessons is now open and summer camp is now open.

Applications are also being accepted for camp counselors.

The pool will be available for Open Swim Monday-Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sunday 12:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.

As a charitable nonprofit, Y financial assistance and multiple child discounts are available.

The Duneland Family YMCA is located at 215 Roosevelt St., Chesterton.
